Dez Admits Rushing Comeback from Broken Foot

Dez Bryant was limited to nine games with foot and ankle issues in 2015

Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant didn’t exactly take his broken foot last season lightly, but he didn’t heed the warnings of others about the dangers of coming back from such an injury early, either, and he admits now that his approach didn’t work out so well.

Bryant suffered a broken foot in the season opener, an injury that kept him out six weeks, but arguably should have kept him out longer than that. When he did return he never really looked like himself, and he ended up being held out of the final two games of 2015 anyway, and undergoing a second surgery shortly after the season.

After I broke my foot and tried to come back, I knew I wasn’t [right],” Bryant said, per Charean Williams of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “But at the same time, I knew what was at stake. I thought I could potentially perform at a high level despite dealing with this foot. It turned out very unfortunate.

“I knew exactly what I was dealing with when I chose to come back. It didn’t work out as planned. I’m taking it for whatever it is. I’m just ready to train. I’m ready to get back, ready to get back 100 percent to do what I love to do, and that’s get in the end zone.”

The time off has left the ultra-competitive Bryant itching to get back.

“Extremely hungry,” Bryant said. “You can only imagine. I’m extremely, extremely hungry. I just want to play football again. I just want to train. I’m just ready to get back on the field.”
