Desmond, Moreland Go Yard in Rout

The Rangers hit three home runs in Wednesday's runaway victory over the Reds, and two of those were nice to see.

With all apologies to Drew Stubbs, who hit one of the three Rangers bombs, it's not terribly exciting to see a guy who isn't a home-run hitter and might not even end up on the roster go yard.

Mitch Moreland and Ian Desmond, on the other hand? That's something to get excited about.

Both guys went deep for the first time this spring and both were encouraging to see from the Rangers' perspective.

Moreland tied for the team lead in homers with Prince Fielder and had a breakout season, setting career highs in several offensive categories, last year and it was nice to see him get on his power horse. Desmond? Well, we all know that story. The Rangers signed the declining former all-star shortstop to play left field and also provide some right-handed pop in the lineup.

As we often say, these home runs mean absolutely nothing in the long haul, but it's always good to see guys get hot and find their power stroke, and it'd be a huge development if those two could do that.
