DeMarcus Ware Could Be Asked to Take a Pay Cut

Ware had 7.5 sacks on his way to a Super Bowl win with the Broncos in 2015

A big cap number ultimately helped spell the end of DeMarcus Ware’s time in Dallas two years ago and, now, Ware could be asked to take a pay cut from his new team.

Jeff Legwold of ESPN points out that Ware’s $11.67 million cap number is the largest among the Broncos’ ultra-talented linebacking corps., and coming off a year in which he missed five games due to injury. There’s also the fact that Ware is 34.

So there’s a chance Ware could be gone, if he doesn’t want to rework his deal or retire, but it’s not as though he looked done last season with Denver.

Even having missed those five games, Ware finished with 7.5 sacks, and got to Cam Newton twice in the Super Bowl. Fellow linebacker Von Miller has said he has no doubt that Ware will be back to play out the final year of his deal with the Broncos.
