DeMarcus Lawrence Will Work Off the Left Side in 2015

With Greg Hardy and Randy Gregory in the fold, the Dallas Cowboys will move second-year defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence to the left side of the line for the most part in 2015--where, they believe, they can get the most out of the Boise State product.

“He goes either way, but I really like him on the left because he’s so explosive out of his stance, so fast,” said Cowboys defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli, per the Dallas Morning News. “You know, sometimes that’s a bigger, thicker offensive tackle over there. You might be able to take advantage of him with your speed and quickness.”

Indeed, Lawrence’s speed has always stood out. It was one of the reasons Dallas traded up to land him early in the second round. This year, he’s added some size, too--he’s up 10 pounds from his 2014 playing weight of 250--which will serve him well against the run.

“I feel like I can hold my own,” Lawrence said. “I’m way more comfortable on the left. I’m right-handed and it’s just more natural to put my right hand into the ground and get off.”
