Darvish Set for Friday, Lewis Uncertain

Yu Darvish will make his second start of the season on Friday at Globe Life Park against the Houston Astros. That's probably a win.

That determination, however, puts Colby Lewis' Rangers future in limbo as it was suspected he might make his first big-league start since July 2012 on that day — a day after the Rangers have to either put Lewis on the big-league roster or risk him opting for free agency.

Lewis had a decent outing at Triple-A Round Rock over the weekend and appears ready to handle the physical load of making a start, anyway. The results are still a question mark.

According to The Dallas Morning News, Lewis could start on Saturday against the Astros, or pushed all the way back to April 15, which is the next time the Rangers will need a fifth starter.

“We’ve got a little time to make a decision,” Daniels said. “On one hand, you’d like to see Colby get another opportunity [at Triple-A] to fine tune things. But on the other, what are you really going to see different? He threw very well for four innings. It wasn’t optimal conditions.”

Daniels added that he doesn't expect Lewis to opt for free agency if he isn't on the Rangers' 25-man roster this week because of the good relationship the club has built with him since bringing him over from Japan in 2010.
