Since April 23 when the Texas Rangers completed a three-game road sweep of the AL-leading Oakland A's and appeared to send a big message to the rest of the league, the Rangers have suffered some more injuries and bad fortune and have, in turn, won consecutive games just once.
That "streak" came on May 8 and 9 when they had two straight shutout victories against the Colorado Rockies and Boston Red Sox. Since then, they haven't been able to string together any kind of win streak, much less consecutive wins.
Today, they have their ace on the hill to open a four-game set in Detroit against the team that many pick to win the American League pennant (if they aren't picking Oakland) as Yu Darvish will get the start against a rookie by the name of Robbie Ray (seriously, that's his name). The Rangers need Darvish to continue to do what he's done all season and have their offense come to life against the Tigers rookie, and if those two things happen you have to like their chances of winning two games in a row.
It's funny how goals and expectations can change — from winning the West again after a two-year drought to winning two games in a row, but baby steps, y'all. Baby steps.
