Daniels Not Expecting Ogando Back This Year

With someone like Alexi Ogando, who is on the disabled list with elbow inflammation in the midst of a lost season for the Texas Rangers, it almost seems like a no-brainer to hold him out the rest of the season.

Ogando, who has been on the DL since June 4, was originally thinking he'd be back at some point in August, but now the Rangers seem to be changing their tune on that idea, Rangers GM Jon Daniels told reporters.

Ogando, who has been on the DL four times over the past season and a half, has been jerked around throughout his career, going from the bullpen to the rotation, back to the bullpen, back to the rotation and back to the bullpen for this season.

But 2014 hasn't been kind to Ogando, as he's 2-3 with a 6.84 ERA in 27 appearances this season. The Rangers initially said that after Ogando's MRI they determined he wouldn't need surgery, only rest. The delicacy of Ogando's issue and the nature of the injury seem to point to the proper decision being more rest for Ogando and a hopeful full-strength return for Ogando in 2015.
