Dallas Among Potential Destinations for Chris Johnson?

Chris Johnson failed to run for 1,000 yards for the first time in his career with the Jets last year

The Cowboys went into the break between the final minicamp and training camp happy with their situation at the running back position. That could change, of course, and if it does, it seems likely that the team will at least give a look to former 2,000-yard rusher Chris Johnson, who remains on the market after an unremarkable year with the Jets in 2014.

The longtime Titan was injured in a drive-by shooting this offseason--a shooting that killed a close friend of his--but has recovered and is looking to return in 2015. Could that return come with the Cowboys? Maybe. CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora at least brought “America’s Team” up as a potential destination for CJ2K in a piece about his recovery last week.

Several other execs brought up Dallas as a possible destination, with the Cowboys currently hoping that a trio of backs will replace the elite production of DeMarco Murray,” La Canfora wrote. “If a team like Baltimore or Kansas City were to lose their starting running back, I'd keep an eye on both as landing spots for Johnson. Denver could make sense over time and New England as well.”

Last year with the Jets, Johnson failed to put up 1,000-plus yards for the first time in his career, but his yard-per-carry average actually went up from 2013, his final year with the Titans, from 3.9 to 4.3.
