Cowboys VP Denies That Dez Threatened to Miss Camp, Games

Well that was fast.

On Wednesday morning, just a little while after reports surfaced that Dez Bryant had told the Dallas Cowboys directly that he would miss training camp and regular season games if he doesn’t get a long-term deal done before Wednesday’s deadline, the Cowboys denied those reports outright.

Executive vice president Stephen Jones refuted that Bryant had threatened to miss time in a text (or texts) to ESPN’s Ed Werder.

Whatever Bryant has and has not told the Cowboys, the team still appears unmoved, as they have all offseason. Jerry Jones himself has said that he’s more than okay with using the franchise tag--because that’s what it’s there for--and that he fully expects Bryant to play this season under the tag if a long-term deal can’t be reached.

Of course, all this hinted-at animus from Bryant’s camp would go away immediately if that aforementioned long-term deal becomes a reality, but with the deadline coming up on Wednesday we’re not terribly optimistic that it will.
