Cowboys Scandrick: 2015 Knee Injury “Put Things in Perspective”

When Cowboys defensive back Orlando Scandrick tore his ACL and MCL during a training camp practice, it was the culmination of what had been a “very sketchy, spotty offseason.”

“It was a difficult situation and it was a weird situation, just from a business standpoint,” Scandrick said.

The 29-year old cornerback missed part of Dallas’s 2015 offseason workout program in hopes of getting a new deal.  The two sides eventually came to an agreement on a five-year, $20 million extension in late May.  But in late August, he fell to the ground grabbing his knee and knew right away the injury was serious.

“What’s crazy is that I was just starting to get back to myself in training camp,” Scandrick said.  “It was the best day that I had had in training camp.  I made plays on the ball that day, and that that just hit me.”

Scandrick missed the entire 2015 season, but is on track to be medically cleared to do everything for 2016 training camp.  And while the injury was difficult, he shared with the media that he is trying to look at the obstacle as a growing opportunity.

“It was good for me,” Scandrick said.  “It put things in perspective and showed me how very fortunate and blessed I am to play this game and just going through that adversity has made me stronger mentally and made me see things different.  I’m really, really excited to get back out there this season and contribute to this team.”
