Jerry Jones has said the Dallas Cowboys are more likely to address the running back position through the draft than through free agency, but that doesn’t mean the team isn’t looking into this current crop of free agent backs.
Most recently, Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports that the Cowboys are one of a few teams showing interest in the New York Jets' Bilal Powell. The others are the New England Patriots and the Baltimore Ravens, and that's to say nothing of the Jets, who will be looking to hold onto Powell with Chris Ivory headed to Jacksonville.
Powell, 27, was used sparingly by the Jets a year ago, taking 70 carries for 313 yards and a touchdown while playing backup to Chris Ivory. He has only averaged more than 10 carries a game once in is career, in 2013, when he averaged 11 carries a game and had a career-high 697 yards on the ground.
