Cowboys RB McFadden Has a Broken Elbow

Cowboys running back Darren McFadden had surgery to repair a broken elbow Tuesday morning, according to Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett.

“Darren McFadden hurt his elbow in an accident at home,” Garrett said.  “He’s going to be out at least a couple of months, though we do anticipate seeing him at some point in training camp.”

McFadden suffered the injury over Memorial Day weekend, but returned to practice at Cowboys organized team activities the following week.  When the elbow continued to bother him, he had an x-ray performed which revealed the break.

"He's a tough guy. That's one of the things we know about McFadden," Garrett said. "He didn't say anything to anybody. At the end of the week he went to our trainers. The X-rays certainly helped us identify what the problem was."

The 28-year old running back rushed for 1,089 yards in 2015, his first season with the Cowboys, which ranked fourth in the NFL.  McFadden was expected to compete with 2016 first round draft pick Ezekiel Elliott and veteran Alfred Morris for the Cowboys starting running back job this season.
