In unsurprising training camp news, the Dallas Cowboys placed linebacker Rolando McClain and rookie offensive tackle Chaz Green on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list on Wednesday, the eve of the first team practice of Training Camp 2015, David Moore of the Dallas Morning News reports.
McClain, who signed a one-year deal to return to the Cowboys in April and was suspended four games for violating the league’s substance abuse policy in July, had his knee scoped this offseason.
Green, the Cowboys third round pick out of the University of Florida who was widely thought of as the heir apparent to the swing tackle spot left vacant by Jermey Parnell, underwent hip surgery in June. His role in his rookie season, if he’s healthy enough to have any kind of substantial role, is unclear.
McClain, on the other hand, is penciled in as the team’s starting middle linebacker--after he serves his suspension, that is.
