The Dallas Cowboys have announced that their 91 acre development in Frisco, TX that will serve as their headquarters beginning in 2016 will be called The Star, but they will continue to look for a corporate naming rights partner.
"Just as Valley Ranch was synonymous with the Dallas Cowboys for 30 years," executive vice president Stephen Jones said on Tuesday, per Jean-Jacques Taylor of ESPN Dallas, "This is the start of Frisco and The Star being synonymous with the Dallas Cowboys, the Dallas Cowboys brand, high school and youth sports and Friday night lights in Frisco. Although The Star will be the lead name, we will begin the process of identifying candidates for naming partnerships of our new headquarters and multi-use facility."
More than just a training facility and team headquarters, the development will resemble a sort of mini-city, with retail developments, office space and an Omni Hotel. A 12,000-seat facility will be used both by the Cowboys and the Frisco Independent School District.
"Yes, we're making a big deal out of this," said owner Jerry Jones. "There is 91 acres out there. Yes it is going to be our world headquarters and where we practice every day, but when Romo comes off on Thursday--he doesn't practice on Wednesdays anymore--there's going to be a Frisco high school quarterback walking about five feet behind him and he's getting ready to start taking snaps in a Frisco high school football game on the exactly the same field Tony Romo just came from."
