On Thursday, the NFL will have their supplemental draft. As part of this draft, the Dallas Cowboys may be looking for even more help on the defensive side of the football.
Dallas has already overhauled their defense this offseason, picking up CB Brandon Carr and S Brodney Pool in free agency, and trading up to land CB Morris Claiborne in the first round of April’s draft. Now, they have an eye on former Alabama A&M linebacker Larry Lumpkin.
"They're interested in Larry," Cedric Pearl, Alabama A&M’s NFL liaison told the Huntsville Times, via the Dallas Morning News. "They've seen him on film. They know what he can do. They're trying to get information on his background."
The statistics suggest that Lumpkin is pretty, pretty good--he had 94 tackles, 10 for a loss, last season at Carson-Newman College, the school he transferred to after two years at Alabama A&M. But according to his position coach at Alabama A&M, Jay Martin, it’s not all peaches and cream with Lumpkin.
"Larry was a playmaker for us, but he had a lot of issues," Martin said. "He was constantly late for meetings and he would miss practice at least one day a week.
"He was very undisciplined. He would have helped us, but he didn't want to be here."
