Cowboys Lock Up 27th Pick

Remember what it feels like to have a first-round pick in the NFL Draft near the end of the round? It's been a while, but that's what happens when you have a successful season like the Dallas Cowboys did in 2014, losing in the Divisional Round of the NFC playoffs.

That loss on Sunday means the Cowboys will pick 27th in the draft this spring, so soon enough we'll start hearing who the Cowboys might be in line to take when mock drafts start coming out. The prevailing thought is the Cowboys will take a pass-rusher with the first pick, and possibly their first two selections.

Last time the Cowboys had the 27th pick in the draft, it ended up working out pretty well even though they didn't pick with the 27th slot. Jerry Jones traded up three spots that year to select Oklahoma State wide receiver Dez Bryant with the 24th pick. It's easy to say that worked out pretty well.

I suppose there's a chance they could move up again, as it wouldn't be a Cowboys draft without them moving either up or down with their first-round pick, but it seems they'll be best served to hold on to all of their picks and fortify a defense that is lacking in playmakers.
