Cowboys Interview Fangio For Defensive Coordinator Vacancy

The Dallas Cowboys interviewed Vic Fangio, most recently the defensive coordinator under Jim Harbaugh with the Stanford Cardinal on Monday for the vacancy at defensive coordinator, the Dallas Morning News reports.

It’s generally assumed that Fangio will follow Harbaugh to San Francisco, to serve as defensive coordinator for the 49ers, but, evidently, Dallas thought him an appealing enough candidate to warrant an interview with Jason Garrett.

Fangio coached in the NFL for 24 years before joining Harbaugh at Stanford and is viewed as a Dom Capers disciple, after serving under him in Carolina and Houston. He has also served as an assistant with the Ravens, Colts and Saints.

Capers, currently the Green Bay Packers’ defensive coordinator, is revered by Garrett, which means that, failing Capers himself--and the Packers won’t, in their right mind, let him get away--the new Cowboys’ head coach will likely attempt to land the next best thing.
