Cowboys Give UFA George Farmer $55K Guaranteed

Farmer has blazing speed but recorded just 30 career catches at USC

The Dallas Cowboys didn’t select a wide receiver in last week’s draft, but they were quick to grab some potential help at the position via the undrafted free agent market. According to ESPN’s Field Yates, the Cowboys have shelled out $55,000 in guaranteed money for George Farmer, an undrafted wide receiver out of the University of Southern California.

That’s a big sum for an undrafted free agent, and it suggests that there was plenty of interest in Farmer elsewhere.

That he declared for the draft at all with a season of eligibility remaining came as a big surprise to many. He finished his career with the Trojans with just 30 catches, and missed the entire 2013 season after tearing his ACL and MCL.

Farmer returned last season to record 25 of those 30 career catches and at his Pro Day, he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.35 seconds--apparently impressing the Cowboys (among others) in the process.
