Cowboys Expected to Activate Rookie T Chaz Green This Week

Green was drafted by the Cowboys in the third round out of Florida

Dallas Cowboys fans could finally be on the verge of getting a look at third round pick Chaz Green.

A Florida product, Green had hip surgery back in June and has been on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list since training camp opened in Oxnard, CA in July. But he has been practicing over the past few weeks and head coach Jason Garrett has said the tackle has made β€œa positive impression” on the staff.

Now, Green is expected to be promoted to the active roster in the coming week.

"We're pleased with what he's done," Garrett said, per the Dallas Morning News. "Unfortunate for him that he didn't practice very much football with us from the outset because of the injury, but a lot of what we liked about him coming out of school we're starting to see."

Green was drafted with the thought that he could play a role similar to that of Jermey Parnell in 2013 and 2014, when he worked as a swing tackle and stepped in as the starter on the right side when Doug Free went down.

β€œHe really loves football," Garrett said of Green. "He competes hard in practice. I think he learns quickly and technically he's getting better and better. He had two good weeks of practice. Last week was an abbreviated week but when you look over the course of three weeks you certainly like what you see. He's certainly a young player, a long way to go who hasn't played a lot of football for us but he's made a positive impression.”
