Cowboys Do Some Shuffling at Cornerback Position

The Cowboys are experimenting with Orlando Scandrick in Brandon Carr's spot at left corner in OTAs

The Dallas Cowboys are shuffling their cornerbacks a bit during organized team activities, experimenting with Orlando Scandrick in Brandon Carr’s old spot at left corner, but head coach Jason Garrett doesn’t want to call it experimenting. Granted, we don’t know what else you’d call that--auditioning the new look, maybe?--but here we are.

For some reason, I don’t like the word ‘experiment,’” Garrett said, per Todd Archer of ESPN Dallas. “It’s more just, ‘Let’s get guys opportunities to do this and see what they can do,’ and I guess you could say that is an experiment. But that seems a ... little bit frivolous, (that) we’re putting this potion into this potion into this potion into this potion.”

It’s not just at the cornerback position that Garrett and co. have shown a willingness to move things around. Up front, they’ve experimented with--or auditioned Jeremy Mincey at defensive tackle. On the offensive line, they’ve looked at La’el Collins at right tackle and left guard, the latter being his more likely position when the season begins.

For now, the shuffling gives the Cowboys an opportunity to get a better idea of exactly what they have, but there is a danger of shuffling too much--and Garrett’s aware of that.

“You don’t want to (move guys around) too much,” Garrett said. “You do want to get guys comfortable. But there is some value in doing that throughout your team.”
