Cowboys Decline Option on Melton

This didn't come as much of a surprise, but the Dallas Cowboys declined their 2015 option on defensive tackle Henry Melton, basically ending the one-year tenure of Melton, who never lived up to even his curbed expectations after he was brought in coming off surgery following his All-Pro caliber play in recent seasons.

Melton would've been a steal at $8 million a year over the next three seasons had he been able to rediscover his 2012 greatness before his 2013 ACL tear. But he was never able to find that level in 2014 and he only started three games.

He did have six sacks as a third-down pass rusher, which was decent, but it wasn't good enough to warrant the money had the option been picked up had he remained on the roster on March 10.

Melton will become a free agent next month and probably land back in Chicago, where he was a Pro Bowl 3-technique with the Bears.
