Cowboys Could Make Bid to Host Super Bowl XLI, XLII

The Cowboys hosted the only Super Bowl in the history of AT&T Stadium five years ago

It’s been five years since the only Super Bowl in the history of AT&T Stadium was played, and the Dallas Cowboys have their sights set on bringing the big game back to North Texas.

According to Charean Williams of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the team could make a play for one of the next two Super Bowls to be awarded by the league: Super Bowl LVI, or Super Bowl LVII, in 2022 or 2023. The vote for the host sites of those games will take place two years from now, in May of 2018.

The first Super Bowl hosted by the Cowboys five years ago was hampered by an aberrant winter storm that put a chokehold on the metroplex for much of the week, and a ticketing snafu led to litigation that, according to Williams, kept the Cowboys from bidding on the Super Bowls that were just awarded to Minneapolis, South Florida and Los Angeles.

“We obviously and totally understand we had business that we needed to clear up here from the previous Super Bowl, which was unfortunate,” Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said. “Hopefully that is coming to an end here this summer, and then hopefully, we’ll be in the hunt. We think this building is special, AT&T Stadium, and certainly a great place for players to come play. I think if you asked players around the league, they certainly enjoy playing the game here. I think North Texas is a great area. I think we were a little snakebit that [Super Bowl 2011] weekend in terms of our weather. I think it’s the first time a snow storm had hit North Texas for a week in 75 years, where kids are out of school for a week. Typically, that’s not the case here in North Texas. We’ve got good weather that time of year.

“We’d certainly love the opportunity to host another one. It would be an honor. And we certainly hope to we get in the mix.”
