Cowboys Content with Current Stable of Running Backs

The Dallas Cowboys could aren’t going to dismiss the idea of bringing in another running back at some point, but the Cowboys made clear this week that the team is content to go into the 2015 season with the group they have in place--Darren McFadden, Joseph Randle, Lance Dunbar and Ryan Williams.

“Short of it being a unique situation,” executive vice president Stephen Jones said, per the Dallas Morning News, “then we’re comfortable where we are.”

Most fans assumed the Cowboys would draft a running back last weekend, but they never did. They could have had their choice of Miami’s Duke Johnson and Indiana’s Tevin Coleman--two players they were high on going into the draft--in the second round, but couldn’t resist adding some pass rush help in Randy Gregory.

Even with the Gregory pick they could have landed Boise State’s Jay Ajayi, another player they flirted with quite a bit before the draft, in the third or fourth round. But they opted for Florida tackle Chaz Green and Minnesota linebacker Damien Wilson with those picks, instead.

“We would have liked to have drafted a running back,” owner and general manager Jerry Jones said. “But at the same token, we didn’t think at any given time that we should pass at the player that was there, even with the running backs [available].”
