Cowboys Confident in Backup Quarterback Kellen Moore

After Tony Romo was injured twice in 2015, the Dallas Cowboys were reintroduced to the importance of having a solid backup quarterback.

Though his numbers were far from outstanding in the time he played late in 2015, and his physical traits aren’t blowing anyone away, Kellen Moore clearly showed Cowboys coaches enough to make them believe he can be the backup for their team in 2016.

“He has a lot of things that really good quarterbacks have,” Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said. “I think if you look at his track record as a college football quarterback, I think that says a lot about what he is all about. He started 52 games in college and he won 50 of them. And he had a lot to do with the success they had (at Boise State).”

Moore is under 6 feet tall and Cowboys offensive coordinator Scott Linehan said of his ability to throw the ball down the field, “there are definitely stronger arms in the league,” but the Cowboys are impressed with other abilities that he has shown in his limited time at Valley Ranch.

“He’s instinctive, an accurate passer, a quick decision-maker, and he’s a very good leader,” Garrett said. “There are a lot of things that quarterbacks have to distinguish themselves from the others, and the best ones have those traits.”
