Cowboys Bring Back McClain

The Dallas Cowboys' defense will look a lot different in 2015 than it did last season, when the unit improved drastically from woefully awful to serviceable and average.

A lot of the faces from that unit are now gone via free agency, but they made a big move by bringing back a key figure from that team, it was announced on Wednesday morning.

Rolando McClain was brought back on a one-year deal worth $3 million plus the possibility for incentives — a really nice deal for the Cowboys for a player who, when healthy, was one a star-caliber middle linebacker in 2014.

The move does a ton for the Cowboys defense, mainly allowing them to move Sean Lee to the weakside linebacker spot, where he might be best suited to play with a little less traffic around him. He can also use his good coverage skills a little more freely from that spot.

McClain was a revelation for the Cowboys last season, taking a chance on a guy who had basically been out of football for four years and two retirements but with first-round talent. He showed that when healthy last season and was a huge reason for the Cowboys' defensive improvement.

McClain visited the Patriots earlier this week and had an offer from New England, which likely turned up the pressure on the Cowboys to finally make a move after they'd been standing pat on him all offseason.
