Cowboys “Being Smart” with Sean Lee

Lee suffered a season-ending knee injury in OTAs last year

Coming off a torn ACL suffered last year in OTAs, the Dallas Cowboys are trying to be smart with the way they work linebacker Sean Lee in OTAs this year.

He’s a ball of energy and excitement and that represents who we are,” said Cowboys defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli, per the Dallas Morning News. “He’s moving well. We’re just being smart as we get him ready to go. But he’s got a lot of good quality work in.”

Lee will be moved from his old post at middle linebacker to the weak side in 2015. Coaches believe the position fits Lee like a glove, and could help keep him healthy and on the field--and that’s the goal where Lee is concerned, of course. The simple fact is that, according to defensive lineman Jeremy Mincey, the defense is better when Lee is on the field.

“He is a very, very intelligent kid,” said Mincey, the Cowboys’ reigning sack leader. “He’s one of those guys that you want to have in your corner. It’s just great to have him out there. He is the team nerd. He knows everything on defense. I love that about him. If he doesn’t know something he asks a question. That’s the best way to get any kind of knowledge. That’s the type of kid he is. We all feed off him. He’s a great person.”
