Could 2015 be a Breakout Year for DeMarcus Lawrence?

The Cowboys traded up to select Lawrence early in the second round of the 2014 draft

Is Cowboys second-year defensive end Demarcus Lawrence on the verge of a breakout season?

One ESPN Insider believes so.

In an Insider piece this week, Field Yates names Lawrence as one of eight players he believes are set to emerge with big seasons in 2015.

"Athletic and explosive off the edge, Lawrence is a building block for the Dallas defense,” Yates wrote, via Todd Archer of ESPN Dallas.

Lawrence’s NFL career got off to an inauspicious start, as he suffered a fractured foot in training camp and spent the first eight games of the season on the injured reserve/designated for return list. He finished the regular season with just nine tackles while playing behind Jeremy Mincey, but made his presence known in the postseason.

In the wild card round, Lawrence could have easily become the goat as he tried to scoop up and run with what would have been a game-ending fumble rather than just falling on it, a miscue that gave the ball back to the Lions. But a little over a minute later, he redeemed himself with a strip-sack of Matthew Stafford, the first sack of his pro career. He himself recovered the fumble to clinch the win and send the Cowboys to a Divisional Round matchup with the Packers.

In that game, Lawrence got to Green Bay’s Aaron Rodgers for his second NFL sack in a losing effort.
