Colombo Due $500,000 Roster Bonus

Between the Dallas Cowboys selecting USC’s Tyron Smith with the ninth overall selection in this year’s draft, the emergence of Doug Free at left tackle, and the team’s high regard for Sam Young, who will enter his second season in the league this season, it seems that Marc Colombo’s days in Dallas are numbered.

Smith and Free will almost certainly be the starters at tackle next season, which would make the injury-prone Colombo a backup--and an expensive one at that. Colombo is scheduled to receive a $500,000 roster bonus in the coming weeks on top of his $1.9 million base salary.

Which is a large price to pay for a backup whose performance has waned over the past few seasons, as he battled through injuries. So whether a matter of simple finances or of simple obsolescence (probably some mix of both), Colombo does appear to be on his way out of town.
