Since moving to Texas from California, Rangersβ hurler C.J. Wilson hasnβt stopped rooting for his hometown LA Lakers--but he has begun rooting for the Dallas Mavericks, the team that swept those Lakers in the Western Conference semifinals, and believes that his teammates should do the same.
Wilson recently bought 25 Mavericks jersey-shirts, distributed them among the Rangers.
"I was really ticked when I saw a couple of the guys wear Heat jerseys to the game the other day," Wilson told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "I'm from Los Angeles, so the last team I will root for is the Heat.
"Being that I am a Texas resident now, I think it is really cool that the Mavs are in the Finals. Coming off the World Series last year I think it is cool for the area to have everything. I think Dallas is really in a hot phase, and it's good to capitalize on that."
On Saturday, Wilson could be seen working out in a Dirk Nowitzki shirt.
"[Nowitzki] is the face of the franchise obviously and is a very unique player," Wilson said. "You don't see a lot of 7-foot-tall German dudes being the MVP of the team. He is the exact opposite of the whole hype with LeBron [James] and those guys.
"I don't like that whole situation. It just bums me out."
