Chuck Greenberg Buys Frisco RoughRiders

The Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers is being sold to a group that includes the former CEO of the big league club.

Mandalay Baseball Properties LLC said Monday it is selling the Frisco RoughRiders to Chuck Greenberg and Scott Sonju, who will remain president of the Texas League team. Greenberg put together a group headlined by Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan that bought the Rangers out of bankruptcy in 2010.

Although Greenberg resigned less than a year later, he maintained ties with the Rangers through his ownership of the Class A Myrtle Beach franchise.

Mandalay bought the Double-A franchise in 2003 and moved it from Shreveport, Louisiana, to the Dallas suburb of Frisco. Forbes valued the franchise at $28 million last year.
