Catch a Baseball Flick With C.J.

In the middle of the most pivotal home stand of the Rangers season, you can go to the movies with All-Star pitcher C.J. Wilson.

On his day off, the philanthropist southpaw invites you to watch 1993's "The Sandlot" on the big screen at the Movie Tavern in Fort Worth.

"It’s a great baseball movie," Wilson said. "For kids, it’s a school night, so watching a movie like this will be pretty cool."

Several weeks ago, the social media-savvy pitcher tweeted his followers, asking what movie they'd like to see with him, and "The Sandlot" is what they picked.

"We could've watched "Inception" or something like that, which is a movie I'd like to see again in a theater, but it’s not about what I want, it’s what fans want, so that is what we're going with," Wilson said.

For a $40 donation, you can take part in a meet-and-greet with Wilson on Monday, snack on appetizers and then watch the movie. It’s a fundraiser for 36 CJ Wilson Children's Charities.

Movie Night benefits a great cause, but Wilson said the event itself is good for the heart.

"I enjoy interacting with the fans," he said. "The enthusiasm created during these events carries over to the stadium. I think people realize that being an accessible guy like I am -- with Facebook, Twitter and all that stuff -- I do that for them. I don't do that for myself, I do it to give fans something and help the charity. Fans are paying a premium price to come to games and premium price for T-shirts and hats, so I want to do something to give them a value for what they are doing."

Before you go, make sure your kids know who the hero lefty pitcher is in the movie -- The Bambino, The Sultan of Swat, The Home Run King, The Goliath of Grand Slam, or just, George Herman Ruth, Jr. or you might be saying, "You're killing me, Smalls."
