Byron Jones Still Finding New Ways to Impress

Jones was selected by the Cowboys with the 27th overall pick of the draft back in April

Lost somewhat (and understandably so) in the Dallas Cowboys’ seventh straight loss was yet another impressive performance from first round pick Byron Jones.

Jones didn’t have mind-blowing marks on the stat sheet--just three tackles, including one for a loss. But when Mo Claiborne--who has quietly been having a nice season--went down with a hamstring injury in the second quarter, Jones stepped in for him, despite having not played on the outside as a corner since training camp, and played well.

Jones has diligently gone wherever the Cowboys have moved him all year, and done it with aplomb. It was this kind of versatility that had the Cowboys’ draft room on cloud nine when Jones was still on the board when they went on the clock with the 27th overall pick.

The rookie didn’t have a clear answer when asked to evaluate his work in the 10-6 loss.

Hard to tell,” Jones said, per ESPN Dallas. “Played a lot of positions. I think I should’ve had that interception as a safety. Just trying to find ways to take the ball away. We did a better job this week than the past, but there’s more opportunities out there for us.”
