Matt Bush has had an eventful MLB debut weekend.
The 30-year-old rookie, who before now was known for all the wrong reasons as the former No. 1 draft pick turned felon in a prison cell, made his Rangers debut on Friday night and appeared again on Sunday. And so far, so good.
Bush retired the side in his debut on Friday, sitting down the heart of the Blue Jays' order — Jose Bautista, Josh Donaldson and Edwin Encarnacion — with his high 90s heat and sharp breaker.
On Sunday, Bush came in with the bases full in the seventh and retired three straight, allowing a sac fly to score a run that was charged to Tom Wilhelmsen. Then, he started the eighth inning, and we all know what happened then.
Bush drilled Bautista, Rangers' Public Enemy No. 1, with a 97 mph heater before all hell eventually broke loose. After the game, he declined comment on whether the pitch had intent, but it was clear it did, and it cemented Bush's spot on the roster for the long haul.
While the Rangers' bullpen is kind of a mess right now, Bush hasn't allowed a base runner in 2 1/3 innings.
There's still a lot to be told in the Matt Bush redemption story, but so far, so good.
