Buechele's Promotion Good for Younger Rangers

The only thing missing on the Texas Rangers' new coaching staff assembled by new manager Jeff Banister is a third-base coach. Banister's choice to be his bench coach, or right-hand man, is a familiar face to longtime Rangers fans as he tabbed former Rangers third baseman and fan favorite Steve Buechele, who's spent recent years managing in the Rangers' minor-league system and was actually a Rangers managerial candidate and was interviewed for the gig.

Buechele's addition to the big-league staff is a big deal for several reasons with none bigger than his familiarity with some of the Rangers' young up-and-coming players -- some that are on the roster currently and others who might be arriving soon.

Buechele spent last season as the manager at Triple-A Round Rock after several seasons as the Double-A Frisco skipper and is familiar with several of the Rangers' younger players.

It's going to be especially nice for Banister to have someone like Buechele on his staff as he tries to get to know several of the players himself. Buechele will be a great liaison early in the Banister era as he tries to get acclimated to his new players and vice versa.
