Bringin' ‘Em Back: Lance Dunbar

In a series of posts, we'll take a look at the Cowboys' own free agents they'll want to consider bringing back for the 2016 season.

Free agent: Lance Dunbar, Running Back
2015 stats: 5 carries, 67 yards; 21 catches, 215 yards; 24.33 yards per kickoff return in 4 games

Dunbar didn't make it out of the fourth game of the season, but in his brief 2015 campaign, the scat-back from North Texas showed just how versatile of a weapon he can be.

You have to imagine the Cowboys are going to be on the lookout for a No. 1 running back, whether it's through the draft or via free agency, and they still have veteran Darren McFadden for one more season after a surprisingly great 2015 season for the oft-injured back.

But Dunbar carved himself a nice role for the Cowboys as a change-of-pace runner, a great receiver out of the backfield and even lined up out wide from time to time and as a kickoff returner. That's a role the Cowboys could definitely use again in 2016.

Dunbar's knee injury in Week 4, a torn ACL and MCL, is serious, and he likely won't be 100 percent when the season begins but that could mean a cheap bargain for the Cowboys, who know better than anyone what Dunbar can offer.
