Brice Butler Taking Advantage of First Offseason as a Cowboy

Butler was acquired in a trade after the Dez Bryant injury in Week 1 of 2015

Dallas Cowboys receiver Brice Butler has already started a couple of games for the team, which makes the idea that he’s still settling in in Dallas a little odd—but it’s true.

Butler was acquired in a trade with the Oakland Raiders last September in response to Dez Bryant suffering a fractured foot in the season opening win over the Giants, and ultimately appeared in seven games, posting 12 catches for 258 yards.

“With the trade and all of that, it’s a lot of stress that—you don’t think of it, because you feel like you’re ok, but really that’s a lot of stress,” Butler told the team’s official website. “You lose your job, then you find out you’ve got a job, then you fly somewhere else and then you come here and it’s hot as crap.”

Now, Butler has the offseason to gain a greater understanding of the offense,  and he intends to take advantage of it.

“I get to learn the offense, like the philosophies and what the coaches want, rather than just learning the gameplan—what we’re running against this team, what we’re running against that team,” Butler said. “Now I get to learn why we do certain things, so it’s actually been big.”
