After sitting out the entire 2012 season, eight-time Pro Bowler Brian Waters returned to action against the Chiefs on Sunday, just under two weeks after signing with the team. Waters rotated in at right guard and played a total of four series, in keeping with Jason Garrett’s plan to bring the veteran along gradually.
“I didn’t want to play him too many snaps,” Garrett said, per ESPN Dallas. “He did practice the last couple weeks, and he felt good, so we want to get him in there and just get him working. It seemed like he did a good job, and it seemed like he handled the work OK.”
There's been no word as of yet if the Cowboys intend on making Waters a full-time starter once he's settled in, or if they'll continue using a rotation at the position. Waters gave himself a mixed review, but admitted it felt good to be back on the field for the first time since the end of the 2011 season.
“It was definitely a good feeling, but we came here to win a football game,” Waters said. “I didn’t really have time to have too much nostalgia.”
