Gil Brandt: Ezekiel Elliott “Looks as Good as Advertised”

Brandt spent almost 30 years as a personnel man with the Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys let the world know how good they think Ezekiel Elliott is going to be when they drafted him with the No. 4 overall pick of the draft back in April, and according to longtime Cowboys executive Gil Brandt, to this point it looks like they weren’t wrong.

Brandt visited Cowboys OTAs recently, and came away with the feeling that the team could bounce back from a 2015 campaign that saw them go 1-11 in the absence of Tony Romo on their way to a last place finish and the worst record in the NFC.

The addition of Elliott is a big reason why he arrived at that feeling.

“The rookie running back looks as good as advertised. So many times you get a rookie and he comes in and everything is overwhelming to him. Not Elliott. Nothing seems to bother him; he looks exactly like the running back Urban Meyer had at Ohio State,” Brandt wrote in a piece on “At the OTAs, he displayed very good quickness and speed. I didn't see a coach correct any of his routes or runs. He has the mental ability and work ethic to succeed right away. He was always one of the first on the field, and one of the last to leave. I feel as strongly about him winning NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year as I did with Todd Gurley at this point last year.”

For what it’s worth, Brandt was right about Gurley, who rushed for 1,106 yards and 10 touchdowns for the Rams and won AP Offensive Rookie of the Year honors for his trouble.
