On Thursday night, Dallas Cowboys linebacker Anthony Hitchens saw his old Iowa teammate Brandon Scherff become a rival, when the offensive tackle was selected fifth overall by the Washington Redskins.
βThey got a good pick,β Hitchens said, per the Dallas Morning News. βWe get to face him two times a year, so Iβm looking forward to it.β
This time last year, Hitchens was still waiting to be drafted. He eventually went in the fourth round to the Cowboys and started 11 games as a rookie, finishing with 75 tackles and an interception.
This offseason, Hitchens spent some time working out with some of his old Hawkeyes teammates who were preparing for the draft, and had the chance to impart a bit of the wisdom he picked up by going through the exact same process a year ago.
βI was telling my teammates from Iowa, just trying to help them out, get them through the process, donβt think about it,β Hitchens said. βA team will get you. Thereβs 32 teams. Only one team needs to like you.β
