Brandon Scherff Goes From Teammate to Rival for Hitchens

Anthony Hitchens knows Redskins first round pick Brandon Scherff well from their days at Iowa

On Thursday night, Dallas Cowboys linebacker Anthony Hitchens saw his old Iowa teammate Brandon Scherff become a rival, when the offensive tackle was selected fifth overall by the Washington Redskins.

β€œThey got a good pick,” Hitchens said, per the Dallas Morning News. β€œWe get to face him two times a year, so I’m looking forward to it.”

This time last year, Hitchens was still waiting to be drafted. He eventually went in the fourth round to the Cowboys and started 11 games as a rookie, finishing with 75 tackles and an interception.

This offseason, Hitchens spent some time working out with some of his old Hawkeyes teammates who were preparing for the draft, and had the chance to impart a bit of the wisdom he picked up by going through the exact same process a year ago.

β€œI was telling my teammates from Iowa, just trying to help them out, get them through the process, don’t think about it,” Hitchens said. β€œA team will get you. There’s 32 teams. Only one team needs to like you.”
