Brandon Carr Named Cowboys' Walter Payton Award Nominee

This is the second straight year Carr has won the honor

For the second consecutive year, Brandon Carr has been named the Dallas Cowboys’ nominee for the Walter Payton Man of the Year award, which honors players who achieve excellence on the field, while contributing to the community through volunteer and charity work off the field.

It's ultimately part of your legacy, combining both on and off the field,” Carr said, per the Dallas Morning News. “Truly off the field is where you really make your mark, I believe, changing lives, leaving a lasting impression on people. They see you with a helmet on and they just think of you as an athlete or a hard-bodied individual, but we all have passions. We all have things we would like to inspire others with. Foundations would be one.

“It kind of deals with the connotation that we're just jocks. We also care about our communities and care about making an impact on them in a positive way.”

The last Cowboy to win the award was Jason Witten in 2012 and, before that, Troy Aikman in 1997. Panthers’ linebacker Thomas Davis won the honor last year.
