Tony Romo has been harassed and hurt during his career as quarterback for the Cowboys. Broken collar bone. Punctured lung. Back surgery. Chased by the Giants' Jason Pierre-Paul. Sacked by the Redskins' Brian Orakpo. Intercepted by the Eagles' Nate Allen. The works.

Um, he ain’t seen nothing yet.

Finally wrangling the official handle away from a squatter, Romo daringly joined Twitter last night with his first offering

As of early this morning, his account – @TonyRomo – was rocketing past 50,000 followers including Dez Bryant, the Dallas Mavericks and ESPN’s Sportscenter. A fake account - @not_romo - has over 150,000 followers.

Romo’s new account identifies itself as the "Official Twitter account of Cowboys QB Tony Romo" and features photos of him and wife, Candice, and him high-fiving son, Hawkins. As of now Romo follows only one account: @GoNFFC, which is the National Fantasy Football Convention he is appearing at later this summer in Las Vegas.

Quarantined Prosper Seniors Go Viral With Tik Tok Trick Shots

As most of us know, Twitter has grown into our daily newspapers with endless, instant news from countless sources. It also, however, is a cold, cruel world littered with trouble-making trolls protected by anonymity and looking to hurl personal criticisms with the hopes of being noticed and/or prompting a response.

As one of the most polarizing figures in DFW sports history, Romo is sure to attract a variety of tweets to his account.

To some, he is an underrated, elite quarterback that has kept the Cowboys relevant and successful despite inferior help. But to others he’s, well, stay tuned …

A native Texan who was born in Duncanville and graduated from UT-Arlington, Richie Whitt has been a mainstay in the Metroplex media since 1986. He’s held prominent roles on all media platforms including newspaper (Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Dallas Observer), radio (105.3 The Fan) and TV (co-host on TXA 21 and numerous guest appearances, including NBC 5). He lives in McKinney with his wife, Sybil, and two very spoiled dogs.
