Boras: Rangers Won't Deal Andrus

In a pretty unsurprising development, it appears the Texas Rangers will not trade shortstop Elvis Andrus this offseason, at least that's if you trust what his super agent, Scott Boras, said on Wednesday.

It would've been hard for the Rangers to find a suitor for Andrus, particularly one that wouldn't require the Rangers forking over a ton of money to help subsidize his $118 million extension that kicks in this coming season, and Boras said the Rangers have no real intention of dealing the 26-year-old.

"I would doubt it," Boras told reporters at the winter meetings. "His standing with the Texas Rangers is good. I have no belief that he would be traded."

In the end, it's a good thing and makes the most sense as trading Andrus would've meant trading one of the team's leaders in the clubhouse and despite his career-worst 2014, a veteran shortstop that is still just 26 years old and has plenty of time to still improve.

The Rangers, of course, have a middle infield surplus with Andrus and Rougned Odor, not to mention prospects Luis Sardinas and Jurickson Profar, who just a couple of years ago was the top prospect in baseball before an underwhelming 2013 season and a 2014 season that saw him on the disabled list for its entirety.
