After another disappointing season, we've just been waiting for the chopping block to start on the Dallas Cowboys' coaching staff.
Last season, within two weeks of a disappointing season ending, the Cowboys fired two assistants, and now the first casualty has come, but it appears to be a mutual end.
Chris Boniol, who coaches one of the most successful groups on the team, has decided not to return to the Cowboys staff and, according to ESPNDallas, plans to remain in the NFL as a kicking coach — a position he's held in Dallas since 2010.
Boniol, a former Cowboys kicker who won a Super Bowl, coached kicker Dan Bailey, who has the three best kicking seasons in Cowboys history, going 89 of 98 field goal attempts over the past three years. Punter Chris Jones averaged 45 yards per punt.
“They’re great guys, work their butts off, love those guys like my own,” Boniol told ESPNDallas. “Real proud of them and what they’ve accomplished as players and people. It’s been a joy to watch them grow and mature as athletes and young men. It’s people like them that I’ll miss.”
