As sad as it is to say, time may be running out for receiver Isaiah Stanback.
The former Washington quarterback sat out his seventh straight practice on Tuesday with a sore left hamstring, the latest injury in what has been a short, maligned career. Drafted in 2007 out of Washington, Stanback entered the league recovering from foot surgery. Then it was a separated shoulder, suffered last August during a preseason game against Houston--and another surgery.
Surgery number 3 came this offseason as the result of a knee injury.
That brings us to today, a sore hamstring, and an increasingly slim chance that the former college quarterback will make the roster out of camp.
Stanback has seen action in just ten games over two years with Dallas. He has two catches for 24 yards, and 13 kick returns for a total of 296 yards.
However, Dallas has remained convinced of his physical abilities. The former 4th round draft pick was thought of by many as the perfect candidate to take snaps in the Razorback, Dallas' version of the much buzzed-over Wildcat; and he very well may be. We may never know at this rate.
Wade Phillips commented on the injuries in this morning's Dallas Morning News, citing the mental toll injuries can take on a player.

"I think the thing with him is the mental part," Phillips said. "He can't fall into, 'this is always happening to me,' and that kind of thing," Phillips said. "And I've seen it happen before. I've seen guys injured a whole lot and stay injured and I've seen guys injured and all of a sudden they get going and they're never hurt again. Hopefully, he'll be the latter."
Hopefully, indeed; because if he's not, his brief career with the Dallas Cowboys may soon be over.
