Jones: We Rejected A “Significant Offer”

Jerry Jones asserted yesterday on 105.3 the Fan that the team would not make any deadline moves, a promise he kept, as the 3:00 CST deadline came and passed.

The option, apparently, was there.

Jones said today in an ad hoc press conference that he had no announcement; then, he announced that the team rejected a "significant offer," ostensibly aimed at swapping a high-end draft pick for one of Dallas's young players. Jones also inferred that the team might have landed a league-ready player as well in the deal, but declined to reveal the player or team in question.

"We had a significant offer for a key player that we turned down, and turned down in getting in more extended dialogue for," Jones said. "So we did have that kind of activity, but I shouldn't name the player or the team. It was a very firm, significant offer for one of our young players that we had a chance for a lot of consideration if we had wanted to take it, and we didn't."

Jones said the offer was not for one of Dallas's running backs, but declined further details, aside from saying that he believed the team needed the mystery player to win this season.

"The bottom line is this," said Jones,"Had I not thought that we need that player right now as opposed to pushing forward in consideration for picks in the future, then I would have taken the pick option on it rather than the player."
