Cleveland Claims DeAngelo Smith

DeAngelo Smith was claimed by the Cleveland Browns off waivers today, less than 48 hours after being cut by Dallas.

As a fifth round pick out of Cincinnati, Smith was thought to be a steal. Over a four year career at Cincinnati, Smith played in 47 games, recording 126 tackles and 12 interceptions.

However, Smith's athleticism never really materialized in on-field production--which was the bang on Smith in college--and he was cut after Friday's win in Minnesota.

Smith was charged with trying to learn cornerback, nickel and safety in camp, a tall order for a rookie, and some thought this versatility would land him a roster spot. Obviously, it didn't.

Sadly, Smith's most memorable moment as a part of the Cowboys will probably be getting smoked by kicker David Buehler in a post-practice 50 yard dash.

The signing will give Smith an opportunity to see the field in a generally weak Cleveland secondary.
