Let me preface this by saying that there's a fair chance that (a) you've never heard of either of these guys, (b) you don't feel that they will be of any consequence and therefore don't care about them or (c) some combination of both. Such is writing about backup offensive linemen.
That said, this is news.
Todd Archer of the DMN Cowboys Blog reports that Dallas has waived offensive tackle Michael Turkovich, and signed, in his place, tackle/guard Andre Douglas.
Turkovich, an undrafted free agent out of Notre Dame, had been hampered by a knee injury throughout the opening days of camp.
Douglas, whose signing brings the roster to 80, played in every game over his two years at Temple after transferring from Rhode Island after his sophomore season. He was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by Tampa Bay shortly following the draft. In May, he was released, becoming a free agent until today, when he agreed to terms with Dallas.
Just what the terms were, no one yet knows.
These often overlooked preseason moves are really only entertaining to the most devoted football freaks because, the bottom line is, they will almost certainly have no effect on the 2009 Cowboys as we know them; this swap is, in all likelihood, one of those. Turkovich was a longshot to make the team; so too, is Douglas.

But as Archer points out, this gives the team an opportunity to watch and evaluate a player for free, something they might as well take advantage of while they can.
