Lance Berkman grew up around the Houston Astros, as a kid growing up in the Houston area, as a college player at Rice University and for the first 11-plus years of his big-league career as he was a part of the famed "Killer Bs" and helped lead the Astros to their only World Series in franchise history.
On Sunday night, he and his new team, the Texas Rangers, were sort of embarrassed by the Astros, who are supposed to be one of the worst teams in baseball this season as they're basically fielding a Triple-A lineup.
After a day off on Monday, Berkman and the Rangers get another shot at their new AL West rivals when the series resumes tonight at Minute Maid Park and Berkman will be looking to notch a win over his old team.
The Rangers designated hitter had a solid debut in a Rangers uniform on Sunday, going 2-for-4, including a single that eventually allowed him to score during a brief Rangers rally that cut a 4-0 deficit in half before the Astros later put the game on ice.
In his 12 career games against his longtime team, Berkman has hit a blistering .432 with four doubles, five home runs and 15 RBIs. In his career, he's 0-for-1 against the scheduled Astros starter for tonight's game, Lucas Harrell. Something has to give, the Rangers just hope it's not Berkman.
