Benn, Seguin Named to Canada's World Cup Team

The World Cup of Hockey 2016 is set for this September in Toronto

Two Dallas Stars will represent their countries in the 2016 World Cup of Hockey in September, as will a Stars minor leaguer, it was announced Wednesday.

Stars forwards Jamie Benn and Tyler Sequin will represent Team Canada. Defenseman Esa Lindell, who currently plays for the American Hockey League’s Texas Stars, will represent Team Finland.

Not surprisingly, Team Canada officials have taken notice of the rapport Benn and Seguin have developed in Dallas.

β€œ[Seguin] was on the radar screen for the last group of players for Sochi (Olympics 2014) and you look at him in the past two years, and he is one of the most dominant players in our game right now,” Team Canada general manager Doug Armstrong told Sportsnet, via the Stars’ official website. β€œHe and Jamie Benn have found a great synergy. They have taken a market that was starving to get back in the playoff hunt. Dallas is a hockey market again, and it is led by those two players.”

The World Cup of Hockey is set to run from September 17 to October 1 in Toronto.
