Beltre's Power Returns, Hopefully to Stay

The Texas Rangers had their big August largely because of a big month from veteran third baseman Adrian Beltre, who hit .308 with five homers and 18 RBIs in his 28 games that month.

They've somehow continued to be a legitimate contender two weeks into September despite the fact Beltre has been in a horrific slump.

In fact, heading into Sunday's series finale against Oakland, Beltre was hitting .182 with two doubles, no homers, five RBIs and 10 strikeouts in 11 games. That's not a recipe for success when your cleanup hitter is doing that.

On Sunday, Beltre came out of his shell with two home runs and five RBIs to clinch the series with the A's and head into this week's key Astros series just 1 1/2 games out of first place.

August was Beltre's best month of the year so far, and if he can get back to that level of performance over the last two weeks of the regular season, the Rangers are going to benefit from that greatly.
